Brett was a two year starter for the Rockford Rams as an inside linebacker. As a sophomore in 2008, Brett helped his team to win the Division 1 State Championship at Ford Field. As a Junior, Brett started for the Rams as they went undefeated in the regular season, until losing in the second round of the playoffs, a game in which Brett was sidelined due to a broken leg. Brett led the Rams defense with 113 tackles that year. Brett’s senior year, he was elected co-captain and helped to lead the Rams to conference, district and regional championships. The Rams came within 4 seconds of a return trip to the State Championship game with a last second loss to Plymouth. Brett led the Ram defense with 140 tackles his senior year. Brett remembers the highlight of his senior year as “Beating the Muskegon Big Reds at Fifth Third Ball Park in Grand Rapids, in front of a sold out crowd of over 13,000 fans!” Brett was selected the Defensive Player of the Year by his teammates both his junior and senior seasons. Brett was also a four-year academic varsity letter winner, and also played lacrosse for Rockford High School.

Brett thanked his family and friends for “always being there and supporting me at every game”. He especially thanked his grandparents for making the drive every weekend! “It was so great to know you were all there to cheer me on!” Brett sent “a special thank you to Coach Munger, Coach Vanderveen, Coach Rogers and Coach Wilburn for not only teaching us excellence on the field, but also for the many life lessons we will use everyday throughout our lives! I learned to never take anything for granted, to work hard every play and to never give up.” Brett said, “I especially thank my teammates, who have always had my back and pushed me to play my best. It has been an honor and a privilege to play football for Rockford and it’s always been easy to play our hearts out for the best fans in the state! I will always remember the Ram Nation!”
