Drew started to play football at the age of 9 for the Milford Mustang Police Athletic league. “He was a natural tackle and center with a great nose for the game and a passion to be on the field.” Drew’s Mustang team in 2001 went undefeated and in 2002 Drew received the team ball as MVP for the season. Drew also played for Our Lady of Refuge’s 7th and 8th grade grade teams. Again the teams enjoyed two winning seasons with coach Grisham and Drew received the MVP his second season. As a freshman Drew started for Our Lady of the Lakes on special teams and backup middle linebacker. Drew, with guidance from his coaches and teammate Josh Sawicki, thrived at the position of middle linebacker. In his sophomore year He started at middle linebacker, led his team in tackles and was selected All League. His freshman and sophomore years the team won the Prep Bowl as Catholic League champions. As a junior, Drew started both ways at defensive middle linebacker and offensive guard. He was selected All Catholic and All Area. His senior year, Drew continued to play both ways at middle linebacker and right guard. Drew was one of five senior team captains and again was selected All Catholic, All Area, and 1st team All State. Drew finished his career with over 350 tackles, 4 fumble recoveries, and 6 interceptions (two of which he ran back for touchdowns). In his four-year tenure, Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes enjoyed 4 District titles, 3 Regional titles and 2 Catholic League titles. The team’s combined total win/loss record was 43 and 8. Drew played in a total of 15 playoff games.
Drew also played varsity basketball. His junior year the team won the district title.
Drew thanked all of his coaches, Mike Boyd, coach Joe, Nuss, Alvis, Garris, and Coach Troy. He also thanked equipment manager Jake and trainer Leah. He thanked his parents, grandparents, Father Lopez, and the “entire Laker community for all of their support.” A special thanks was given to his Grandpa “for all his travels. Remember ‘Peck’ and ‘Deckerville.’”
