After playing on freshman and JV teams in his freshman year he moved up to varsity. His first start was game 5 of the season and he led the Cougars from an 0-4 start to a 4-5 record. In his junior year he led the team to 4 straight wins to close the season and put the Cougars in the playoffs for only the second time in school history. His senior year, the offense was changed to the spread and Ryan broke every season record for quarterbacks in the 38 year school history. He led the Downriver area in completions, touchdown passes, and total yards and was second in passing yardage. He also was captain in his senior year and was named team offensive player of the year.

Ryan was a three sport athlete. In addition to football, he had a record setting career in hockey and was named all conference all four years. He also played baseball all four years with the final two on the varsity. He has earned 9 varsity letters in his high school career.

Ryan thanked his sister, parents and grandparents, all the people at Truman and all the coaches that have worked with him through the years. My coaches, “taught the sports but also about character and that has made me into the person I am today.” He specifically pointed out hockey coaches, Ron Hayes and A.J.
