Charlie graduated from Cheboygan High School in 1984 where he played football and baseball.  He attended Adrian College where he played football for four years and baseball and track for two years.  After receiving his B.A. in 1988, Otlewski was named a Graduate Assistant at Central Michigan University for Coach Herb Deromedi.  While at CMU, he coached both the defensive backs and wide receivers and received his M.A. in Athletic Administration in 1990.
    From 1990-1994, Otlewski was the Head Football Coach at St.Ignace LaSalle H.S.  The Saints qualified for the playoffs in both 1992 and 1993.  In addition to coaching football, Charlie also was the boys track coach for three years winning the U.P. Class C Crown in 1993.
    Since 1994, Charlie has been the Head Football Coach at Haslett High School.  The Vikings were State Runners-Up in 1998 and 2005.  The Vikings have made the State Playoffs ten straight seasons while capturing four league championships.  This fall will be Charlie’s 19th year as a head coach, with an overall record of 133-50.  He was named Detroit Free Press Class B Coach of the Year in 2005 and was a Detroit Lions Coach of the week recipient in 2006.  In addition, Otlewski has been a MHSFCA Regional Coach of the Year six times.  Besides football, Otlewski also has been the boys and girls track coach at Haslett for the past three years.
    Charlie has been married for 17 years to Wendy and has two daughters Breyanna, 14, Mariah, 12 and one son Nathan, 8 who is also serving as a west ball boy today. “I have had some tremendous assistant coaches both at St. Ignace and Haslett High Schools who shared in our successes at both schools.” He said, “Coaching in today’s game is a tremendous honor from the MHSFCA and I look forward to coaching a great group of young men and working with an outstanding West Coaching Staff”.
