LANSING – The Michigan High School Football Coaches Association announced today that the annual allstar game that was to be played in June has been canceled due to COVID-19 concerns.

“We feel at this time given the current state of the health in our state it is the right thing to do,” said Andrew Pratley, president of the MHSFCA. “We are aware that this is one more thing that will be taken away from graduating seniors and we feel terribly for those young people. We did look at moving the game to a later date and other possible solutions but it just isn’t possible. “

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced Thursday, April 2, that school buildings would not reopen for the remainder of the school year. The Michigan High School Athletic Association said Friday, April 3, that all winter and spring sports for the 2019-20 school year would be canceled as well.

The game was scheduled for June 20 at Saginaw Valley State University.

Pratley said the coaches association will proceed with selecting members of the team and will announce via Twitter then seniors who would have represented the East and West squads.

“While we know this doesn’t replace the amazing experience these young people would have had, we feel it is important to give them something to be proud of for all of their hard work and accomplishments,” Pratley said.

The June game would have been the 38th annual East vs West All Star Game.
