These 5 winners were selected from 47 applicants. Their average GPA was 3.7 and their ACT scores ranged from 29 to 35. Kanon Dean was first in his class of 273 students, had a 4:00 GPA, and scored an impressive 35 on his ACT. Scholarship Chairperson, Kelly Luplow (Clare), said; "this was one of, if not the most, competitive scholarship years the MHSFCA has ever had."
Kanon Dean - Lowell High School
Kanon will be attending Harvard University and study government/economics.
"Thank you very much for this award! It will used very speedily"
Carmine Finelli - Hartland High School
Carmine will be attending The College of Engineering at the University of Michigan. He hopes to study biomedical engineering.
"I am so very grateful for being given the wonderful opportunity and I can not give enough thanks. Receiving this scholarship makes the financial aspect of college much less of a burden. Once again, thanks so much!"
Jason Sammut - Romeo High School
Jason will be attending Michigan State University Honors College and studying Mechanical Engineering.
"It is with great honor and gratitude that I accept the MHSFCA 2014 Educational Scholarship. I realize just how many phenomenal athletes, excellent students, and inspiring leaders are part of our graduation class, and it means so much that out of all these candidates, I would be selected to represent the MHSFCA and the quality young men that it helps to produce.
My high school football experience has been more rewarding than I could ever have imagined, and this award puts the final mark in this chapter of my life that I will never forget.
Thank you so very much for this scholarship, it is extremely generous and it will help me make the most of the wonderful opportunities ahead of me. Thank you again."
Seth Malcolm - Standish-Sterling Central High School
Seth will be attending Michigan Tech University.
"I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the MHSFCA for granting me this scholarship. I feel truly honored to be the recipient of such a prestigious award. Please know that this money will serve as a substantial contribution to my first year of study at Michigan Technological University. Again, on behalf of my family, and myself, I offer my heartfelt thanks for your generosity."
Jarrett Reichel - Onsted High School
Jarrett will be attending the University of Michigan to pursue a degree in biology.
"I would like to thank you for honoring me with this scholarship. I have loved playing football throughout my time in high school, through all of the highs and the lows. I always believed that playing the sport I loved would not help me in my educational pursuits in college. It seemed that football and academics never really went together. However, the MHSFCA made me think differently; football and education could be complimentary to each other. Both my selection as Academic All-State and for this scholarship have helped me see differently. My football pursuits could substantially aid me in my quest for higher education. So again, I’d like to thank the MHSFCA for showing how my work in school and on the football field could contribute so much to my future endeavors."
