Dream Team Awards Banquet


For the first time the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association (MHSFCA) has partnered with the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame (NFF & College Hall of Fame) to select the 2018 High School Football Dream Team. Awards will be presented at the Dearborn Inn starting at 5:00, 20 December. Tickets ($40 each, $400 table) can be purchased by calling or emailing Lori Deel Scott: 248-528-2860, Payment can be made by mail or credit card prior to the event. 


Dream Team Selection Process


In early November, head coach members of the MHSFCA nominated their best players for All State consideration. MHSFCA Committees representing each of the 8 Divisions of 11-man and 2 Divisions of 8-man football selected All State Teams in each Division. The MHSFCA then selected the Dream Team from those All State Teams.


Scholar-Athletes were chosen from academic All State nominees also made by MHSFCA member head coaches. The top two nominees were selected to receive the Scholar-Athlete Awards.


Dream Team Coach of the Year was an easy choice for the MHSFCA. John Herrington served as our President for 2018. He retires as the Michigan high school football coach with the most wins in the State’s history.


In addition to High School Dream Team and Scholar-Athletes the Banquet will feature keynote addresses by University of Michigan head coach, Jim Harbaugh, and MSU senior safety, Khari Willis. 


The banquet will also recognize NFF & College Hall of Fame Scholar-Athletes from D1, D2 and D3. 


D1 Scholar-Athlete Award

The D1 Scholar-Athlete award will go to Cole Chewens, Michigan State University, Cole has earned a 3.91 cummulative GPA,majoring In finance. Cole is a 2015 graduate Clarkston High School. He played in the 2015 MHSFCA Border Classic (Team Michigan defeated Team Ohio, 24-7, at Wayne State University). At MSU he was a two year starter at offensive tackle and: a two year Academic All Big 10. In 2018 he was named First Team Academic All American and Academic All Big Ten Second Team.

D2 Scholar-Athlete Award Charles Jay Rose - Hillsdale College 3.43 GPA. Charles, a linebacker for the Chargers gradulated from Brecksville Broadview Heights High School in Ohio. Was also a high school National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete.


D3 Scholar-Athlete Award Trent Monroe - Olivet College 3.77 GPA. Trent is a graduate of Plainwell High School in Kalamazoo. An offensive lineman for the Comets he was named to the D3 All North Region Second Team and the MIAA First Team. He was also selected to the Google Cloud Academic All-District® VI Football Team
